-Dermaplaning questions and FAQs
~What is the technique?
This technique is safely performed using a blade specifically designed for derma planing. Once the skin is properly prepped, the technician holds the skin tight and gently glides the blade along the skin surface at a 45° angle. It is extremely safe when performed by a professionally trained dermaplane pro
~Will the hair grow back thicker?
No, this is physiologically impossible. The soft fine vellous hair will grow back slowly – usually in about four weeks.
There are two types of hair that grow on our bodies.
1. Vellous hair is the thin, fine, soft hair that typically covers the entire body.
2. Terminal hair is the coarse hair that grows on the head, face in men, under arms, legs, and pubic areas.
Derma planing, waxing, tweezing, sugaring, threading, or any other depilatory form of hair removal cannot alter the type of hair grown in any given area.
-Do delay exposure to excessive heat, heavy workouts, steam rooms, and saunas for 24 to 48 hours post-treatment
~How often can this procedure be performed?
Dermaplaning can be performed every 3 to 4 weeks. Treating the skin in this manner actually moves about 2 to 3 weeks’ worth of dead skin cells.
~Can it be combined with a chemical peel?
Yes. Dermaplanning is an excellent way to prepare the skin for a chemical peel.
~Can I receive dermaplaning on the day of a big event?
Dermaplaning is recommended several days before a big event, especially for brides. If this is the first time a client is receiving dermaplaning, this is very important in case she does have a reaction to either dermaplaning or a product used.
~Who can be treated?
All skin types can benefit from dermaplaning. Typically clients over 35 are the best candidates and will return for regular treatments. Men can be derma planed on non-bearded areas only but they typically prefer microdermabrasion.
